Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462)

The Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462) allows young people from eligible countries to travel to Australia for up to 12 months, combining holidaying with short-term work and study. It is designed for cultural exchange, travel and gaining work experience, while supplementing your travel funds by working in Australia.

Eligibility Criteria
  • You must be aged between 18 and 30 years (inclusive) at the time of application.
  • You must hold a valid passport from an eligible country.
  • You must not be accompanied by dependent children during your stay.
  • You must meet education and English language requirements (as specified for your country).
  • You must have sufficient funds to support yourself at the beginning of your stay (around AUD 5,000) and a return ticket or funds to purchase one.
  • You must meet health and character requirements.
Visa Benefits
  • Stay in Australia for up to 12 months from your first arrival date.
  • Work for any employer in Australia, generally for up to 6 months with the same employer (unless an exemption applies).
  • Study or undertake training for up to 4 months.
  • Travel freely in and out of Australia during your visa validity period.
  • Apply for a second or third Working Holiday Visa if you complete specified work in regional Australia.
